Post-doc/scientific developer opening at RSUQ

The Chair of Risk, Safety and Uncertainty Quantification in Engineering at ETH Zurich (RSUQ) develops computational methods for managing uncertainties in physical models used in various fields of engineering and applied sciences. We develop the open source, Matlab-based software UQLab (external pagewww.uqlab.comcall_made), a platform that makes state-of-the-art uncertainty quantification algorithms available to researchers and practitioners from every field of applied science. With over 4’300 users from 94 countries, UQLab is recognized as one of the leading software platforms on this topic.

Project background

After close to 8 years development, the UQLab codebase has grown well over 100k lines of code, 19 user manuals, and a large number of unpublished features. We are looking for a full-time postdoctoral-level researcher/developer that will be responsible for the design and development of a number of UQLab features.

Job description

You will primarily design, extend (possibly re-design) and document several scientific modules of UQLab from probabilistic modelling to sensitivity analysis, from metamodeling to machine learning, mostly based on recent publications from the Chair members. You will also be involved in the design and development of a benchmarking infrastructure for UQ methods, as well as leading the development of any missing methodological or theoretical tools needed to seamlessly integrate the new modules within the UQLab framework.

Duration: 12 months, possibly extended to 18 months.

Your profile

You have a PhD in applied mathematics or engineering, and has proven skills in the following domains:

- Development of scientific software (design, implementation, validation and documentation)
- Advance knowledge of Matlab and Python
- Experience with uncertainty quantification and/or statistical- and machine learning
- Experience in the following fields is not required but is an advantage:

- Agile and collaborative development methodologies (GIT, scrum, etc.)
- Linux system administration
- Software architecture and/or UX/UI design
- Cloud software development

We are looking for highly motivated candidates who are self-driven, have excellent communication and writing skills (fluent spoken and written English is mandatory), and enjoy working in an interactive international environment with PhD students and senior staff.
